James McCallum

Contracts Manager

James has been with SouthRoads for over five years, from 2009 to 2014, returning in 2018 as Contracts Manager in Central Lakes. He brings over 13 years of work experience in the engineering field mixed between the contracting and local authority sectors. James completed an engineering cadetship with the Invercargill City Council through the Otago Polytechnic, followed by an Applied Diploma in Engineering (Civil) and National Extractives Industry B Grade Quarry Management Certificate.

James has worked on a large variety of civil construction projects within the lower South Island at a planning and management level over his career, such as the Southland District Council’s recent Alternative Coastal Route Improvements Project. This project involved a seal extension of over 23km and safety improvements. The project and took over two years of planning and construction management, of which, James was heavily involved with.

James brings a practical and proactive approach to project management and reinforces this with excellent people skills. James enjoys the variety of work he has at SouthRoads and seeing projects go from conception to completion. James’ efforts have been recognised by being an REAAA Award recipient twice in both 2017 and 2018.

Outside of work, James enjoys spending time with his family and friends, fishing and a passion for classic cars.
