Who are we?
SouthRoads is part of the H W Richardson Group Ltd companies. We are a Southland based construction company specialising in roading and civil engineering. SouthRoads currently employees 140 staff and owns 284 items of plant including 20 Graders, 7 Excavators, and 33 trucks. We have one of the most modern and reliable construction fleets in New Zealand.

Where did it all begin?
SouthRoads Ltd is a progressive construction contractor with bases in Southland and Otago with an extensive track record in civil construction and maintenance in these areas.
Our operational background dates back to 1989 when SouthRoads was formed from the Southland District Council district works division. This was the amalgamation of various County Council’s in Southland works operations.
SouthRoads was formed into the present company in 1996 when the company was acquired by the H W Richardson Group Ltd.
This history has given our staff considerable experience in the construction and maintenance of civil project and building relationships with those clients throughout Southland and Otago.

Our staff have the experience of working in Southland and Otago for many years, knowing the local areas and people, the experience of having completed similar works, and the desire to develop and maintain our client relationships.

SouthRoads has been accredited to the ISO9000 standard since 1995. It is committed to maintaining this standard, having been confirmed as complying with the revised AS/NZS ISO9001:2008 standard and works closely with all suppliers, sub-contractors and clients to refine and improve its Quality Assurance Systems.

Health and Safety
SouthRoads is an accredited employer under the ACC Partnership Programme, and is proud of this achievement.
The dedicated Health and Safety Manager is directly responsible to the General Manager for all aspects of Health and Safety within the companies operations.
The company maintains a comprehensive Health & Safety management system that applies to all of our activities. We have a Health & Safety Policy and Plan that underpins how the company will operate to fulfill our obligations under the Health & Safety Act.
Environment
SouthRoads operates a stringent Environmental Policy of compliance with all statutory requirements and local, district and regional plans.
Through our Environment Management Plan, we ensure all our work conforms to the Resource Management Act, consents and regional fresh water and clean air plans.
All of our staff are aware of their statutory requirements, which are contained in our operator handbook for ready reference.
Our Environmental Management Plan ensures that all risks to the environment are minimised and actively managed at all times.

Supporting Local People
SouthRoads and our parent company, HW Richardson Group Limited, are proud to be part of the local communities of Southland and Otago.
Our staff live in these communities, we use local suppliers and subcontractors on our projects and we support community projects by extensive sponsorship and donations to sporting infrastructure, events and people, and by our support of community events and cultural organisations and local people.
